What is mental illness?
Mental illness is a disease that causes mild to severe disturbances in thought or behavior. There are over 200 mental diseases and one in 5 adults experiences a mental condition each year. Many of these illnesses make it difficult to function each day.
What causes mental illness?
There are multiple factors that can influence mental health including genetics, environment and lifestyle. Stress at work or home can make people more likely to develop mental health issues as well as trauma. Drug and alcohol use can also impact mental health.
