The consumer awareness program is a program for those apprehended for shoplifting or other misdemeanor theft.
*CAP "Walks" each participant through the specifics of the shoplifting incident which resulted in their arrest-including stressors, rationalizations, and consequences. The treatment program utilizes commonly recognized group therapy techniques.
* CAP offers the offender, court and community the following benefits:
- Promotes effective rehabilitation for first time offenders
- Reduces the damaging psychological effects of arrest and conviction for first time offenders
- Reduces time consuming judicial and rehabilitative case management expense
- Reduces the number of second time shoplifting offenses
- Reduces the loss of retail sales for the area merchants
